Wood Carving Instructions

Clear instruction – without the small talk

Here are some stills from our award-winning “Sign Carving With Your Router” DVD. Our goal is to actually show you how to carve wooden signs, not to entertain you. So we focus our energy on clear, close-up photos, and easy-to-follow, step-by-step instructions.

The freehand carving technique Jim Bartz demonstrates requires a large, acrylic or polycarbonate base plate for the router. This allows the router to float over the carved-away portions of the sign and allows the operator to clearly see the pattern that’s been transferred to the workpiece.
The video shows how to transfer your sign design onto the workpiece using old-fashioned carbon paper.
The broad base plate also enhances operator control of the router as it smoothly glides across the workpiece.
